‘Heading Out’ (2013): New BBC Two comedy written and starring Sue Perkins

Stop all the clocks! Sue Perkins has finally dabbled in the sitcom genre, bringing her erudite wit and likeability once again to the small screen in her new comedy, Heading Out.

Moving away from her recent niche of eating lots of cakes in front of millions of viewers with comedy partner, Mel Giedroyc for The Great British Bake-Off (also for Beeb Two), Perkins’ self-penned 6-part comedy tells the story of Sara, a “smug, intellectually-insecure…” and talented vet who has failed to ‘come out’ to her parents. Her friends, played by Nicola Walker (Spooks) and Dominic Coleman (Miranda) offer her an ultimatum: either she tells her parents when they come to visit in six weeks’ time, or they will.

The first episode has just aired tonight at 10pm (catch up on the BBC iPlayer for UK viewers) and has received the Girl On Film seal of approval! Highly recommended.
